This homemade deodorant is a great option for those with sensitive skin that can't tolerate baking soda. It's gentle and nourishing, yet still keeps you feeling fresh and clean. Plus, it's incredibly easy to make – whip up a batch in just 5 minutes!
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup coconut oil
- 2/3 cup beeswax pastilles
- 4 tablespoons shea butter
- 2/3 cup arrowroot powder
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 15-30 drops essential oils (optional) I use Peppermint and Tea Tree but not mixed together
- Empty deodorant containers
Instructions:
-
Combine the coconut oil, beeswax pastilles, and shea butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1-3 minutes, stopping to stir every minute, until all the beeswax is melted. Or I use a double boiler with a stainless steel pour container in a wax melting pot.
-
Remove from the heat and stir in your desired amount of essential oils (if using).
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and arrowroot powder.
-
Slowly add the melted oil mixture to the dry ingredients, whisking constantly to combine.
-
Pour the mixture into your empty deodorant containers and let it harden for at least a couple of hours before using.
Tips:
- For a thicker consistency, use more beeswax or shea butter. For a softer deodorant, use less.
- Experiment with different essential oil combinations to find your favorite scent. Lavender, tea tree oil, and lemongrass are all popular choices for deodorants.
- Because this deodorant is free of preservatives, it's best to store it in a cool, dry place and use it within 3-6 months.
This recipe yields 5-6 deodorant sticks, perfect for gifting or keeping a few on hand for yourself. Enjoy the satisfaction of making your own soothing and effective deodorant!
